March 2007 Chapter Meeting Highlights:

Chapter Business/Highlights:

Thanks to Mike Gibson for his informative presentation on Anderson cachets. Mike showed a number of covers from his collection and told us about the cachet maker.
Mike has a large collection of Anderson covers but he still is on the lookout for covers he is missing.

Our chapter website has been updated by Dave Richmond. Dave plans to add some photos as well. Thanks Dave for all your help (http://www.afdcschap56.org).

TEXPEX: Mailing labels arrived yesterday for all the AFDCS members who have a zip code beginning with 75 or 76. I will be sending an invitation to all of the members who we have not seen at our chapter meetings - about 24 prospects. We will give a gift to all who return the letter to our table at TEXPEX.

Loretta Starr will be coordinating the staffing of our table at TEXPEX for April 13, 14 and 15. Please call Loretta and let her know when you can staff our table. Our goal is to recruit new members for the AFDCS and also to encourage anyone interested in First Day Covers to attend our chapter meetings. We have been one of the leading chapters in recruiting new members for the AFDCS - lets keep up the good work. Loretta will be calling if she does not get all the volunteers that are needed.

Dave Fletcher (FIP Covers) is back in Dallas and he attended our meeting on Saturday. We are looking forward to seeing Dave at future meetings - he will be permanently staying in the Dallas area. He recently lost his wife and we all send our
sympathy. Dave made a presentation to our chapter a number of years ago - he told us about selling FDCs on e-bay which he continues to do. On Saturday, Dave shared with us some of the changes he has noticed in the FDC market - one interesting statistic was that the majority of his customers are female. Something to think about - how to attract them to the AFDCS.

We hope to see all of you at TEXPEX!

Regards,
Paul H. Benson

Items of Interest/Upcoming Events:

If you have not been getting Linn's in a timely way, join the crowd. A few of our members have told me that they are getting late deliveries (eg.3/5 issue delivered on 3/14).

Our chapter meeting will be held at TEXPEX on Saturday, April 14 at 2PM in the Teak Room. Look at the TEXPEX 2007 web site for more details. The subject will be the New York Stock Exchange 200th Anniversary stamp issue from 1992. One of our members who worked for a stock broker will be the speaker.

May 12th Meeting: Show and Tell - Ugly Covers - program suggested by the Graebner Chapter.
