Texas Philatelic Association

August 2006 Chapter Meeting Highlights:

August Meeting Highlights:

In attendance:Cliff Way, Bob Benner, Jesse Covey and Paul Benson

Persons not attending but who called or contacted me and volunteered are: Loretta Starr, Tricia Richmond, Sharon Whiting and Ron Aljoe.

To update all of you --

Invitations/RSVP:
We discussed inviting all interested collectors and dealers to the meeting. Bob Benner will make contact with the Dallas Park Cities group, the Collectors Club of Dallas and the Mid Cities club to let them communicate electronically with their members with the invitation. We will need to ask for an RSVP so we can prepare for the number planning to attend. --- We will need to set a cutoff date. We will need a volunteer to coordinate the RSVP -- I suggest an e-mail reply.

Programs:
Bob Benner will contact Norm Cohen to see if we can print programs for that day. He will also try to obtain the photo of Fred Sawyer that was used in the Texas Philatelist --He will check with Jeanne Sawyer. The photo can be used for the program and also the plaque. Tentative timing is 10:30 AM for refreshments and exhibits--11AM the formal presentation and speeches.

Plaque:
Cliff Way is coordinating the plaque that we plan to donate to the University. It will be displayed at the Wineburgh Philatelic Library. Cliff asked for me to supply the wording for the plaque. I will check with Jeanne Sawyer to see if she has any specific recommendations. The plaque could cost $250.

Event Cachet:
Tricia Richmond will design an event cachet -- we will plan to get them canceled that morning at the Richardson Post Office. Tricia can contact the Richardson Postmaster in advance. The chapter will pay for the stamps and printing costs.

Refreshments:
Loretta Starr, Jesse mentioned that his wife, Betty could help. We talked about Coffee, punch and cookies. Again the chapter will cover the cost.

Displays:
We plan to display chapter photos, chapter covers and hopefully McIntosh cachets. It was suggested that we take this opportunity to demonstrate what FDC collecting has to offer. Bob Benner will be checking what type of frames are available at UTD. I was told they have frames. Bob though they might not hold the 16 pages of a typical frame that we see at TEXPEX.

Speakers:
Ron Aljoe will be the keynote speaker--he was the first President in 1986 I will act as the master of ceremonies.
Cliff Way will present the plaque to Larry Sall(hopefully he can attend) and to Jeanne Sawyer.
I would expect that Larry and Jeanne would have a few words to say. Jeanne may have some insight into Freds role in the chapter that she would like to share with us.
I have contacted Doug Kelsey of the AFDCS--he passed my request to Chris Lazaroff the new President of the AFDCS. I was hoping for a letter which we could read or a video that we could show--to recognize our 20th Anniversary and name change.

Sale of Covers:
Bob will check with Larry to see if we can sell covers on that day

Drawings:
We are considering obtaining some donations that we can use for a drawing that morning. The Drawing would take place after the ceremony. Bob Benner has tickets to use for drawings.

Spouses--are invited

Chapter Web Site--
It was suggested that we show examples of our web site -- Perhaps David Richmond could attend demonstrate the web site

PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS A CELEBRATION OF OUR 20TH ANNIVERSARY AND A CELEBRATION OF THE RENAMING OF OUR CHAPTER. THIS IS NOT INTENDED AS A MEMORIAL PROGRAM. BY RENAMING OUR CHAPTER, WE ARE CELEBRATING THE CONTRIBUTION THAT FRED SAWYER MADE OVER THE PAST 20 YEARS.

(Date: October 14, 2006 at UTD)

Please let me know if you have anything to add or any corrections.
