April 2006 Meeting Highlights:

Results From TEXPEX:

We received paid applications from four people - one new member and three reinstatements. We spoke to a number of people over the three days. Unfortunately, our mailing to new prospects did not result in one reply. I hope the envelops were received because one was sent to my return address that appeared on the back of the envelop. Overall, I think the show was fine but the crowds were non existent on Palm Sunday . Tricia Richmond gave an informative talk about her McIntosh cachet line.  We had hoped for a larger turnout. Tricia provided a free First Day Cover to all attendees.

Our fabulous webmaster, David Richmond, brought his digital camera and took a number of pictures.  I guess we can call him our official photographer. If you would like to see some of the pictures he took at TEXPEX or some older pictures, simply sign on to our website: http://www.afdcschap56.org and click on the photo album link in the nav menu on the left side of the webpage.

Tricia Richmond designed cachets for the Ben Franklin stamp which had a special second day of issue cancel at TEXPEX on Saturday.  We sold unserviced cachets which were contributed to us by Norman Cohen. We still have cachets available and we plan to have some serviced with the FDOI cancel in Philadelphia. The USPS placed the Sugar Ray Robinson stamp on sale on Friday April 7 at TEXPEX - this date coincides with the FDOI in New York City so many people took the opportunity to make unofficial FDCs.  The April 7 TEXPEX cancel also appears on some of the Ben Franklin stamps which is also the FDOI in Philadelphia.  Again an opportunity for unofficial FDCs.  There was an exhibit of the 1986 Texas first day covers at TEXPEX.

I hope you had a chance to see it.

REMEMBER OUR NEXT MEETING WILL BE ON SATURDAY MAY 6TH AT UTD IN RICHARDSON.

DETAILS WILL FOLLOW - PLEASE BE CERTAIN TO ATTEND SO WE CAN PLAN OUR ANNUAL PICNIC MEETING FOR JUNE.

Regards,
Paul H. Benson
