  • 10:45-11:30 AM: Presentation by speaker Marilyn Bearr - report on Americover 2008 and her experiences exhibiting there.
  • Available for sale at the meeting:
    • LBJ 100th birthday covers cancelled in Austin in August as well as the remaining Beijing Olympic FDCs.
    • The LBJ covers are $2 each with $1 being donated to the Chapter.
    • The Olympic covers are $3 each with all proceeds going to the chapter.

The Fall Classic - Baseball Covers: Speaker - Paul Benson

    • Directors voting--subject to approval by the AFDCS.
    • Christmas Party--any new suggestions?
    • Still need a volunteer for the May 2009 meeting--this is the only slot still available. Share your collection with us.
  • 10:30->Noon-- Feature Presentation:
    • Take Me Out To The Ballgame by Paul Benson, 1939-2008 Sights and Sounds.
    • A variety of FDCs will be shown for all the Baseball Stamps issued by the USPS/POD.
    • Some cachets will be brought alive in song or words.
    • We are in the midst of baseball playoffs and the World Series is fast approaching. This is an especially timely topic!

Enjoy the fellowship of other collectors and go home with additional knowledge or even some new covers. Tricia Richmond often brings her latest McIntosh FDCs for you to admire and purchase.

June July 2008 Annual Picnic
  • The Chapter Annual Picnic was Friday July 18 at 6:30PM at Cliff's home.
  • We had our traditional bar-be-que from Sonny Bryan. The cost was $12.00 per person (including Ice Tea).
  • CHAPTER MEMBERS WHO HAVE ATTENDED AT LEAST ONE CHAPTER MEETING SINCE JANUARY 2008 DID NOT HAVE TO PAY THE $12 FEE. However, as usual, spouses or guests were invited and they were be required to pay the $12 fee.
  • Members who have not attended a meeting this year were encouraged to come to the picnic. This is a good opportunity to socialize and enjoy each others company.
May 2008 Chapter Meeting
  • Our Mary meeting was held on Saturday May 24 beginning at 9:30AM (note the changed meeting date) at the University of Texas at Dallas in Richardson, located on Campbell Road in Richardson. Location will be in the McDermott Library, Special collections area, Wineburgh Philatelic Library.
  • Agenda:
    • 9:30-10 AM Swap and Shop -- bring covers to sell or trade
    • 10AM Business Meeting

    • Report on Texpex
    • May Presentation: Tricia Richmond will be our speaker -- her subject is the ACE Cover Exchange.
    • June picnic planning -- June Picnic at at Cliff's home. Our picnic is for members and their spouse/guest. The date is June 14-Flag Day.

April 2008 Chapter Meeting
  • TEXPEX was held April 11-13 at the Doubletree Hotel in Dallas near the Galleria. Chapter 56 had our table set up and manned in the show entry area.

  • Our April meeting was held on Saturday April 12 at TEXPEX from 2:00 to 3:00 PM in the Acacia room. Our guest speaker was Bob Emrick, a hand painted cachet maker from Texas. His seminar topic was titled "Two Hobbies Collide!"

March 2008 Chapter Meeting
  • Our March meeting was held on Saturday March 8 beginning at 9:30AM at the University of Texas at Dallas in Richardson, located on Campbell Road in Richardson. Location will be in the McDermott Library, Special collections area, Wineburgh Philatelic Library.

      Request from Chris Lazaroff that Chapter 56 handles AFDCS vote count
    • 10:45 AM Cliff Way showed his collection of the 1995 Texas Statehood First Day Covers. Cliff attended the First Day Ceremony in Austin. He even had then Governor George Bush's autograph on a folder. The cachets for this issue were very colorful and reflected the history of Texas.

February 2008 Chapter Meeting
  • Our February meeting was held on Saturday February 9 beginning at 9:30AM at the University of Texas at Dallas in Richardson, located on Campbell Road in Richardson. Location will be in the McDermott Library, Special collections area, Wineburgh Philatelic Library.

  • Anyone interested in doing any Philatelic research has access to the Wineburgh Philatelic Library until 12 noon. Paul Oelkrug from the Library was available to help learn how to use the library. The Philatelic Library is open to suggestions as to which materials (books etc:) might be added to the collection.
  • If you have not attended one of our meetings, we suggest that you feel free to join us. We look forward to meeting new collectors
  • One of our members, Tricia Richmond is a cachet maker (McIntosh cachets) and she often attends with her latest creations which are for sale. Tricia has won awards at the annual AFDCS conventions in recent years.
January 2008 Chapter Meeting
